Pastor Hagee, the unintentionally humorous religious leader backing McCain, said that Hurricane Katrina was God’s judgement for New Orleans allowing so much sin to take place within the city. The death toll for Katrina, including out of state deaths that were related to the hurricane was approximately 1577. Now another hurricane has struck, killing an estimated 22,000 people in Myanmar.
My question is this; What on earth could these people have done to make God so angry?
It may sound like a ridiculous question, but if Katrina was God’s wrath for the sins of New Orleans, then logically, the sins of Myanmar are more than 10 times greater than New Orleans. And this is the problem with saying that “God has punished” a city, region, or even a person. Because guess what, natural disasters occur all the time, and if God is controlling them all, then He is killing a great many people. And killing them in an indistinct manner, too. Including a great number of children, which no one seems to bring up.
To actually believe that God is going around killing people in this manner is bizarre, not only because an all powerful being should at least have better aim (perhaps killing the actual offenders), but to believe that God is unconcerned with the collateral damage done to others is rolling the calender back a few thousand years, where God was angry, and so lightning was in the sky. Just how ignorant do you have to be to believe this idiot? How on earth does Pastor Hagee have any supporters at all?
And why on earth did McCain actually seek this freaks endorsement? When asked about Hagee’s comments about Katrina, McCain denounced them, and for some reason kept repeating the word “nonsense” a number of times(9 times). And with that strange disavowal, McCain went on.
And that is a fascinating thing. Because when Obama said that he completely disagreed with things his Reverend had said, and went so far as to distance himself after Reverend Wright went on the T.V. circuit, it didn’t seem to matter. Obama was still linked to this preacher. Well it’s a good thing Obama isn’t a Catholic, otherwise Obama would no doubt be held responsible for the priests that were molesting children.
So why is Obama held to a higher standard? Well, this isn’t the 1950’s, now when you go after a minority, you have to be subtle about how you attack them. Perhaps subtle isn’t the word, as the barrage of so-called news reports is anything but subtle. Lets just say that to attack someone of color, you have to attack them asymmetrically.
