McCain, Obama, and Cuba

In yet another odd statement from McCain, he vowed to continue the trade embargo with Cuba until Cuba is a Democracy, and it’s political prisoners are set free.  Obama had been crazy enough to state that since our stance regarding a trade embargo with Cuba is 5 decades old, perhaps it was time to revisit the issue.  But McCain would have none of that, apparently totally unaware that China is also communist, and that we do massive amounts of trading with them and other communist countries.  Not the least of which is Vietnam, which I would have bet money one that McCain was till angry at for keeping him as a POW.  Maybe he forgot about that, just like he forgot his former stance on how religion and politics should not mix.  China also is rather draconian in many of their laws, even imprisoning journalists for daring to point out problems within their own country.  McCain went on to say even talking about easing U.S. trade restrictions “would send the worst possible signal to Cuba’s dictators.”  Where is the talk of halting trade with China until their dissidents are freed?

McCain also said that “The embargo must stay in place until the basic elements of Democratic society are met.”  But as to why Cuba must change, and China is given a free pass, I am starting to wonder if McCain doesn’t have Chinese lobbyists working with him as well (evidently, McCain has had some interesting lobbyists, some of which have been sacked).  While I actually like China from a historical perspective, and feel great sorrow for the massive earthquakes that has recently killed so many, it is difficult to not notice that they are currently a communist country.  Well, it’s difficult for most rational people to ignore this fact, if you are the GOP candidate, ignore away!
