While I was busy laughing at the debates between the two liars running for President, and staying up till dawn to watch the Olympics, evidently the situation between Russia and Georgia has worsened. While some still debate whether or not the U.S. should be saying anything after we invaded Iraq, I cannot imagine the two wrongs somehow cancel each other out. Who knows, maybe people in Russia feel their government has gone nuts just like we know ours has, only we no longer hear very many opinions coming from Russia that are not favorable. At least in the U.S., we are still free to complain about the criminal activities of our own government, even if no legal action occurs. Sure, we know that crimes have been committed, but in the surrealistic words of Attorney General Michael Mukasey, speaking about the Department of Justice hiring practices, he actually said that “not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime.”
Exsqeeze me? Not every violation of the law is a crime? What in the hell does that mean? But I suppose reasoning like that explains a very great deal as to why so few criminal investigations are brought to bear against the current administration. And it shows the danger of allowing the politicization of the system of justice, not that anyone has bothered to fix it as of yet.
But back to Russia, the Russians are also angry at both Poland and the U.S. for trying to install missiles in Poland, which would make sense if the missiles were offensive. But the missiles being talked about are purely defensive, and few in number. If Russia really wanted to nuke Poland, it still could. The U.S. keeps trying to say that the missiles will in no way be a threat to Russia, but Russia seems unwilling to listen. The missiles in question are not capable of stopping a massive attack, the small number of these missiles are meant to be a safeguard against a small scale/rogue nation attack. And with Musharraf stepping down, this may be a very good time for such a missile defense system, seeing as Pakistan actually has nuclear weapons. Huh, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, supplied some of the 9-11 hijackers, and allows virulently anti-Western Muslims to operate seemingly without cause or worry that they will be arrested or killed by Pakistani forces. Good thing we invaded Iraq.
So why would Russia be angry about defensive missiles in Poland? How on earth is that any sort of a threat to them? Who the hell knows, one thing is for sure about Russia, they have no idea what the term cease-fire actually means. Or more to the point, they couldn’t care less.
