Watching Blagojevich’s News Conference today, I was reminded of crazy people that talk to themselves on the street, only I feel sorry for the ones on the street. Blagojevich tried to actually say that the reason he is being chased out of office had nothing to do with the tapes of him trying to sell a Senate seat to the highest bidder. No, everyone was after him because… He was trying so hard to help people. No, really, that is essentially what he said. Blago even had a number of people on the stage with him, which should be a Geneva convention violation (See: Human Shields).
But as Blago blathered on, I actually started to like the speech. Not because I believed a single solitary syllable, but for the same reason it is fun to watch Chinese martial arts movies with really bad voiceovers. You are watching something that seems to be a coherent story, and yet it is unmistakable how impossible and indeed crazy the words coming out of either Blago or a Chinese actors mouth are to listen to. In the case of the foreign movies, well, there is only so much you can do with how the actors are speaking, and trying to somehow turn that into English. But with Blago, there is no way on earth to justify whatever the hell it is he is saying.
But as fun as that news conference was to watch, we should all tell Blago to get off the cross, we need the wood. True, we may need the wood to fashion some sort of stake to drive through his political career’s heart, but we need it just the same.
