Are we still winning the war against terrorism? Because from this story, it seems as if we don’t quite yet have a handle on the situation, and after the former U.S.S.R.’s debacle in Afghanistan, we should wonder if we are not heading for a similar fate if we cannot prevent militants from actions such as these.
From the L.A. Times:
Officials say hundreds of Taliban insurgents traversed the rugged border and attacked a Pakistani military camp. At least 40 militants and six Pakistani soldiers were killed.

REPORTING FROM ISLAMABAD — Hundreds of militants crossed over from Afghanistan to attack a Pakistani military outpost today, officials said, in an illustration of the merging of the Taliban insurgency on the two sides of the border.
Hopefully this action is not a harbinger of things to come, and with additional attention on Afghanistan, we can at least prevent militants from staging actual invasions of neighboring countries. Allowing militants from these neighboring countries to link up is something that cannot be allowed if we are to be successful in any meaningful way in that region.
If you are looking for good news from Afghanistan, this is about as close to good as you are likely to get. Compliments to the Aussie’s in Afghanistan for taking out Mullah Abdul Rasheed, a (former) Taliban insurgent leader, who was known to have helped import foreign fighters who were trained on how to build IED’s, amongst other misguided deeds for Islam. Rasheed was reportedly killed in the Oruzgan Province in Afghanistan by Australian coalition forces.
