Robots: Here to Help, or Here to Steal Our Womenfolk?

Robby the Robot

Just thought the pic was funny, until I ran across this movie poster -

Forbidden Planet, Robby the Robot Giclee Print

We’re DOOMED!  Just think, a robot could sit there and just listen to a woman talk for hours and hours, and the robot would even be listening!

Robby the Robot: “No, really, you look like you’ve lost weight, and I don’t mind listening to you at all for what seems like some sort of purgatory-ish length of time, I mean who wouldn’t want to hear all about the problems you are having regarding shoes and clothes and…”

————————————-

How are we supposed to combat that ability?  On the other hand, if the female just talked to the robot for hours, it might free us some time to watch sports, or who knows, maybe even venture outside, and I don’t mean just to go shopping or run errands.

And the robots could even go dancing, and I doubt I would hear any more complaints about us stepping one someones shoes after they have had a robot put their 900 lbs. on one of their feet.  As if women in heels never step

on anyone else’s feet.

After all these years, Robby’s still got it.

He must have one of those *magnetic personalities.  (*Worst joke on my entire blog, and that is one tough race)

Brushing her hair?  The human race is finished.

But all jokes aside, this thing is freaky.

And then they’ll move into the clergy.

But you know, it may not be all bad.

From WebUrbanist:

ever-1 android female korean robot

(images via: Chosun and Geekologie)

Ever-1 is a Korean android that is able to move its upper body, speak, and make facial expressions.  It can even make eye contact with the people near it.  Although it can’t move its lower limbs, it can be used to read to children or provide information in a public setting.  The singing, fully moving Ever-2, the follow-up android, was introduced in late 2006.  Ever-2’s face was noticeably less real-looking…and sort of creepy.  The Korean public protested its doll-like visage and the Ever-2 was eventually given plastic surgery to look more like Ever-1.

Sure, the design from Korea needs some work (augmentation for starters), but suddenly robots don’t scare me as much.
