T. Boone Pickens has recently said that we are entitled to oil from Iraq because, well, we invaded it, which is a brilliant way to piss off every middle eastern oil supplier that we desperately do business with.

Oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens told Congress on Wednesday that U.S. energy companies are “entitled” to some of Iraq’s crude because of the large number of American troops that lost their lives fighting in the country and the U.S. taxpayer money spent in Iraq.
Boone, speaking to the newly formed Congressional Natural Gas Caucus, complained that the Iraqi government has awarded contracts to foreign companies, particularly Chinese firms, to develop Iraq’s vast reserves while American companies have mostly been shut out.

Now I myself found it at least odd that Chinese oil firms seem to be securing a fair amount of deals in Iraq since they never really helped with the reconstruction, but that is their business. We did say that we wanted Iraq to be a sovereign nation, so we really can’t really dictate who they sell their oil to if that is to be true at all. But what struck me was that Pickens himself has been lobbying for us to replace oil as our fuel source entirely, and has spent quite a bit of money doing it.
