220 – 215, and now we wait for the Senate to kill the bill. The Stupak Amendment, which essentially tells women to f**k off was added, and maybe that is why there was one whole voter from the GOP that was in favor of the health care legislation. Well that was worth it.
But it is common for legislation to have things added to it in the hopes that these additions will kill it further down the line. Adding a little poison to a proposed bill often is the death of that legislation.
Reading comments at conservative sites is always an education, they seem to be crapping themselves over this. I don’t know why, but I cannot help but feel that whatever does actually happen in the Senate, that true health care reform will remain illusory.
If the Democrats can actually manage to somehow get their ducks in a row in the Senate, there is a chance. Not for real reform (single payer), but for the Democrats to get re-elected in 2010 and 2012.
I am a cynic, and looking at what the legislature has done in the past few decades, there is a good reason to be distrustful.
